Prayer

From the Rector:
"
I say Morning Prayer in church on most weekday mornings at 9.00 am (details on each week’s Keep in Touch sheet). You are very welcome to join me at church. If you can't join me in person, but would like to pray with the wider church, why not use the Church of England's daily prayer feed see below left." James Richards

Latest Updates & Announcements

Lost Property Last year a visitor left a camera bag containing valuable equipment in the church. We had been expecting it to be claimed, but no-one has contacted us. We believe it may have been left by a Chinese or a Japanese visitor. If anyone can help us re-unite it with its owner, we will be grateful.

Sermons and Services **Updated 23/8/19** We are working on providing recordings of our Sunday worship. Some recent recordings can be found on our Sermons and Services page

Visiting St. Martin's

Once again our wonderful team of volunteer welcomers are on duty for our 'open' season. We aim to keep our church building open to visitors seven days a week between 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. from Sunday 1
st April to the end of September. You will be very welcome. (Please respect the communion service that takes place in the chapel on Wednesdays between 10.30 and 11.15 am). On Thursday mornings you are likely to meet our band of valued volunteer cleaners. (These times are subject to other services which may be held from time to time.)

St. Martin's is fortunate to have in its East Window what an expert has described as 'the finest collection of medieval glass in the North-West of England'. We also have a unique 'Arts and Crafts' inspired decorative scheme from the 1870 restoration by Henry Hughes of the renowned stained glass makers, Ward and Hughes of Frith Street, London. Henry Hughes also carried out a very sensitive restoration of the East Window. For more information follow the Our Building link on the left.

On your visit to the Lakes why not spend half an hour enjoying the peace and beauty of this ancient building as part of your visit to our community.

The churchyard is always open to visitors and includes the listed gravestone of Rasselas Belfield (at the east end of the church) which is one of English Heritage's Sites of Memory. Ironically a tombstone at the West end of the church commemorates John Bolton the owner of Storrs Hall and a local benefactor much of whose wealth was founded on the "triangular trade".

We are also on the Blackwell Arts & Crafts trail.
